The Saint John Chapter of CPA New Brunswick invites you to an evening of Professional Development (CPD) and Networking on Thursday, February 15, 2018. In addition to our CPD offerings, you will have the opportunity to mingle with other CPAs from your Region, attend your choice from two professional development sessions, and experience the Discovery Zone complements of Deloitte.

Tax reform in Canada – the closure of unfair tax loopholes for the wealthy OR an attack on small business and professionals who are a core part of our communities?

Presenters:

Christopher C. Neal, CPA, CA Partner is an Advisory Practice Leader with over 27 years of public accounting experience.  Chris has special expertise in a number of areas including: Qualified Expert (Tax & Accounting) - Court of Queen’s Bench, New Brunswick;  advisory services to senior government officials: government support to organizations, strategic tourism initiatives and Elections New Brunswick training regime assessment; financial analyst of publicly traded companies; analyst for client mergers and acquisitions; business planning and strategic planning initiatives; experience with complex clients with international operations; and experience with forensic investigations.

Allison (Al) Walker, FCPA, CA has over 30 years of practice, primarily in taxation in the private sector. Al is a sought after speaker for various conferences and courses related to taxation. He is also the co-founder of the Atlantic Tax Executive Forum. He is a member of the Member Canadian Tax Foundation. Al has and continues to hold senior roles in the private sector. These include Director of Taxation– Irving Oil Limited (2012 to present); Director – Norcan Petroleum Group (2013 to present); and Director of Taxation – J.D. Irving, Limited (1998 to 2012)

Come and hear David Campbell, economic development consultant, Telegraph-Journal columnist and the former Chief Economist with the Province of New Brunswick discuss why he thinks the next  five years in New Brunswick will be a critical period as we look to attract significantly more immigrants, develop new industries and foster a lot more entrepreneurs.  If we don’t get it right now, we could be facing 20-30 years of economic stagnation.

Presenter:
David Campbell is the President of Jupia Consultants Inc., an economic development consulting and research firm based in New Brunswick. Previously, he was Chief Economist with the New Brunswick Jobs Board Secretariat. In that role, he led the development of economic policy and economic development strategy for the Government of New Brunswick. David has more than 25 years’ experience in economic development-related roles as a consultant and working with industry, not for-profit organizations and governments across Canada. He has strengths in economic impact analysis, economic and demographic profiling,return on taxpayer investment (ROTI) analysis, sector development and investment attraction.

Discovery Zone

The Deloitte Discovery Zone is an immersive innovation environment.  Deloitte aims to expose you to disruptive and enabling technologies and trends that could have an impact on your business.   Deloitte does a lot of work around Business Innovation, Behavioral Innovation, Organization Innovation, however, huge drivers of innovation are exponential technologies, exponential business organizations and exponential platforms.

Physical disruptors in Exponential Technologies are also explored.  The Deloitte Discovery Zone is not about selling the specific gadgets and tools but instead giving you the opportunity to see these new technologies in action.  Deloitte has had tremendous success with their clients who have not been aware of some of these technologies or were not aware of how to deploy the technology in their businesses.  The purpose of the Deloitte Discovery Zone is to expose you to some of these things so you can catch disruption before it impacts you.

Some items on display in the Deloitte Discovery Zone will be augmented reality/virtual reality devices, wearable technology, drones, etc.

The Union Club's facilities are available for rental to the public for meetings, parties, dinners, weddings, and functions of every kind.

There are six private rooms in the Club for business meetings or smaller gatherings, the largest of which can accommodate 40 people.  The Dining Room, the Lounge, and the P. W. Oland Room are available for larger functions.  The Dining Room can accommodate up to 100 people.  We offer many types of seating arrangement depending on the type of function you would like to hold and we will find the best one to suit your needs.

Overhead projector, projection screen, flipcharts, easels, and markers are available free of charge.  Other equipment can be provided by an outside supplier at an additional charge.

Wireless Internet access is available throughout the Club.  Please contact the General Manager for the password.
