Session Descriptions

Cash Cows, Pigs and Jackpots: The Simplest Personal Finance Strategy Ever [7.00 CPD credits]
The previously accepted method of building wealth doesn’t work anymore. The truth when it comes to personal finances is simple: People’s quest to secure a comfortable retirement often ends up making them poor and others rich.

The old way to get wealthy was to acquire assets like real estate, stocks and mutual funds, often using debt, and then sit back and let time grow the net worth. But that strategy is deeply flawed and is sending many people to the poor house.

What we should really be focused on is not getting rich, but plain old cash flow.
David Trahair, CPA, CA

Promoting a respectful workplace and preventing harassment [7.00 CPD credits]
The objective of this program is to equip leaders with the knowledge and tools they need to promote a respectful workplace and to manage rude and harassing behaviour. Participants will learn about the essential nature of harassment, and will understand their responsibilities and rights as managers.

The workshop gives easy-to-understand guidelines for distinguishing between legitimate management actions and abuse of authority.
Maxime Labbé ; George Raine, CPHR

PSAS: Review of the Standards [7.00 CPD credits]
This seminar provides an overview of Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) accounting recommendations as they apply to financial reporting by entities in the government sector.

Key recommendations of PSAS as set out in the CPA Canada Handbook Public Sector Accounting are reviewed, and a variety of examples are used to assist in understanding the application of the recommendations. Key concepts are compared against their IFRS and ASPE counterparts.
Justin Melnyk, CPA, CA

Leading Change [7.00 CPD credits]
Workplaces are increasingly complex. Many are defined by unrelenting change be it large or small, incremental or sudden, intentional or organic.

Leaders are tasked with leading or participating in a variety of change initiatives while striving to create healthy workplaces where people can thrive, do their best work and deliver results.

This practical workshop is designed to ensure that people have the knowledge and skills to effectively lead and support change initiatives. It is based on research and best practices that are then translated into practical and proven strategies for success in the workplace.

Emphasis is placed on the work of Harvard University’s John Kotter, one of the leading authorities on organisational change.
Pierre Battah

Time Management [7.00 CPD credits]
Time Management is a method of applying more efficient practices in regards to how we manage our work, particularly through organization skills and the most effective use of our time.

This is accomplished through skills and techniques applied in combination with the appropriate tools.

Through Time Management training, we learn how to be more organized; we learn how to prioritize our work in order to get more of the important things done; we learn how to manage interruptions and all the new priorities that come up all day, including managing emails effectively; we learn how to identify our time wasters and our productivity issues and develop strategies to overcome them; we learn how to file critical documents and emails so that we can find them again easily; and we learn how to get the most out of our Time Management and Personal Productivity tools.
