About the role

The Finance and Accounting Department acts as a resource for the City and its various departments in providing financial implications and impact analysis to assist in decision making, reporting, budgets and system changes or enhancements. Accurate and reliable financial analysis is achieved through a cooperative effort and good communication with other departments.

This position plays a leading role in the department's continuous improvement journey and play's a key role in preparation and presentation of final budgetary documentation.

This position reports to Deputy Treasurer - Corporate and Management Accounting.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Commerce, Business Administration or another related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • CPA designation
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in finance and accounting
  • Experience in cash management and forecasting
  • Able to demonstrate experience in process improvement
  • Strong working knowledge of sophisticated financial systems, applications and implementation
  • Continuous improvement experience, must be willing to challenge status quo while considering all facts and be able to make solid recommendations also based on facts
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and has to be detail oriented
  • Strong background with sophisticated computerized financial systems with experience in financial report generation and systems development, testing and implementation
  • Strong background in analyzing complex financial information into decision tools for management in a timely fashion
  • Strong communications skills and be able to clearly explain financial practices and results to Leadership Team and to City Council
